Text for Sunday, June 23, 2019:

Luke 8:26-39

PReparation for worship

“My song is love unknown,
My Savior’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be.”
– Samuel Crossman, 1664

“A legion of demons has been, as I believed, cast out of me. I would prefer merely to forget all of this that I have known and simply rest at the feet of the Savior. But lo it is said to me, so strongly as to compel me against my will, ‘Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you’.” – Gregory the Great, 6th century

Pastor's Note

Dear Ones,

How powerful are you? In our high moments, you and I can feel very powerful. But in our low moments, or even in our mundane ones, we can feel very UNpowerful.

How powerful is Jesus? When Jesus cast out those demons from the Gerasene man in today’s text, He spoke as someone with ultimate authority. He did not pray to the Father in this instance. He did not command the demon based upon an incantation or a special object or a magical formula. Jesus’ word is powerful enough. In fact, His words are not even recorded here. The demons just leave based upon the will of Jesus.

Do you know this type of power? If you believe in Jesus, then this power is available to you.

Warmly,

Joe Brown
