Luke 10:25-37

PReparation for worship

“It is only when we have found in Christ the pity and the healing which we need, that we shall go forth into the world with love as wide as His.” – Alexander Maclaren

“Those who believe they have pleased God by the quality of their devotion and moral goodness naturally feel that they and their group deserve deference and power over others. The God of Jesus and the prophets, however, saves completely by grace. He cannot be manipulated by religious and moral performance--He can only be reached through repentance, through the giving up of power.” – Tim Keller

Pastor's Note

Dear Ones,

The Parable of the Good Samaritan may be one of the best known parables of Jesus. For centuries Christians and non-believers have used it as an example of doing mercy for the needy. It is true that believers in Jesus should be doers of mercy and not just bloggers or tweeters about serving the needy. “Slacktivism” is rampant today.

Nevertheless, the context of this story is of someone trying to justify themselves.

There is only one way to get justified and it only comes through faith in Jesus.

Warmly,
Steve
